About the role
Stantec is seeking dynamic and creative candidates to join our growing Geosciences Team as a Senior Hydrogeologist. The Senior Hydrogeologist will take a technical lead role and execute unsaturated and saturated flow modeling and related projects for mining studies/projects of varying size and complexity, and at various project stages from initial concepts through execution.
Responsibilities
- Work with hydrogeologists, geochemists, and geotechnical engineers, to develop conceptual site models, develop analytical and numerical models of unsaturated and saturated groundwater flow, and design evapotranspiration cover systems.
- Develop mine water management approaches including water budgets, mine dewatering, waste material impoundments, and groundwater containment/mitigation.
- Attend meetings and interface with clients, agencies, external consultants, contractors, sub-contractors, and/or vendors.
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control on their own projects and projects of peers.
- Prepare technical reports.
- Support business development efforts and proposal preparation.
- Contribute to an innovative and collaborative work environment where creativity is valued and encouraged.
- Supervise and mentor junior staff members and support hiring new talents.
- International or national travel can be expected.
Qualifications
- Expertise in unsaturated flow modeling using HYDRUS or SVFlux is essential.
- Expertise in saturated flow modeling using MODFLOW and/or FEFLOW.
- Strong expertise in evapotranspiration cover design.
- Ability to lead evapotranspiration cover design projects.
- Experience in marketing and preparing proposals and presentations.
- Ability to mentor junior to mid-level staff.
- Strong technical report writing skills.
- Able to work on several projects or tasks during any given day on a consistent basis.
- Able to manage time, be organized, and set priorities.
- Possess strong problem-solving skills and ability to make timely decisions.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Able to perform in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Be a driver of a positive work environment.
Skills
- Valid driver’s license.
Requirements
- Minimum of an M.S. in Hydrogeology/Geology/Geochemistry or related field is preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years of working experience in consulting or regulatory environment, regularly developing or utilizing unsaturated and saturated flow models is preferred.
- Existing professional registration or ability to work towards a professional registration (PG or PE).
