About the Role
As the Senior HVAC Technician, this position performs operation, maintenance, repair, and installation of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems and related components across NOVA campuses. The role involves supervising contracted HVAC work, leading other technicians, and handling emergency repairs on weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities
- Supervise contracted HVAC work.
- Maintain, repair, and install HVAC equipment and systems in compliance with applicable codes.
- Provide economical and safe HVAC services to campus facilities.
- Complete work orders prioritized by immediate supervisor.
- Independently handle emergency HVAC work on weekends and holidays.
- Lead other HVAC technicians and trades staff, assigning tasks based on supervisor-approved priorities.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems.
- Support emergency operations and coordinate with campus HVAC contractors.
- May be required to assist in state-declared emergencies or perform other assigned duties.
Requirements
- Unrestricted valid driver’s license in good standing with a clean driving record.
- Commercial HVAC training and experience in energy management and mechanical systems.
- Experience in operation, maintenance, and preventive maintenance of HVAC equipment.
- Experience with multiple automatic controls, building management systems, or equivalent training.
- Ability to work independently, follow verbal instructions, and make sound decisions with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in using hand/electric tools, service manuals, and diagnostic equipment related to HVAC trades.
- Ability to lift/move 50 lbs. regularly and work in close or cramped environments.
- Knowledge of HVAC principles, practices, and equipment repair/replacement.
Qualifications
- Refrigeration Certificate (preferred).
- Journeyman license or HVAC Trade license (preferred).
- Niagara EMS certification (preferred).
- Encelium lighting certification (preferred).
- Experience reading mechanical drawings and building blueprints.
- Experience operating and maintaining chillers, heat pumps, air handlers, and geothermal systems.
Pay
$75,000 - $85,000 annually.
Schedule
Typical schedule: Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM. May require travel between NOVA campuses.
