About the role

The Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) Sr. HTS Classification Specialist is a responsible member of a Harmonized Tariff Classification Team responsible for all classification-related compliance activities across all DTNA businesses in the United States and Canada including parts for: production of powertrain components, conventional and vocational trucks (Class 6, 7 and 8) for on and off highway applications (Freightliner© and Western Star©), specialized chassis’ and buses, for school and special services (Thomas Built Bus©) step in vans and chassis’ for motor homes, coaches, e-vehicle trucks and buses, autonomous vehicles and Aftermarket service. The Specialist will collaborate with the HTS Classification Manager and team members to determine when a customs ruling request is appropriate and may be assigned the responsibility for providing the necessary research and product data in support of such ruling. This Specialist will collaborate with DTNA’s related party companies globally to optimize the import of goods under the most appropriate import regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Gather product information from multiple sources and maintain documentation necessary to support accurate tariff classifications and Customs ruling request as needed
  • Provide trade compliance inbox support for classification requests on a rotational basis
  • Provide tariff numbers and certain PGA compliance data for clearance of import shipments. This includes production, aftermarket, factory automation, prototypes, shipping racks, promotional items, samples, chemicals, paints, testing equipment
  • Assist HTS team members with post entry auditing of tariff classifications
  • Maintain Participating Government Agency (PGA) product database and transmit updates to broker
  • Research, prepare and provide PGA-related data and documents such as bearing worksheets to brokers for customs clearance
  • Establish and maintain supplier contacts for product information
  • Establish and sustain a network of internal contacts as sources of product information
  • Provide classification training to suppliers during Trade Programs’ Annual Supplier Training
  • Resolve HTS discrepancies with suppliers in support of Trade Programs Team
  • Support Import/Export team with Customs clearance process
  • Prepare responses to US CBP and CBSA government inquiries (CF28s and CF29s) and analysis and material to support response
  • Provide HTS Supporting documentation/ Basis for Classification for Drawback
  • Provide analysis on international trade/customs issues
  • Support systems implementation/upgrades that may have a direct impact on the Trade Compliance team (GTM)
  • Monitor regulatory changes and implement necessary process improvements to ensure continued compliance with all laws and regulations
  • Identify, analyze, and assist in resolving issues related to customs clearance processes
  • Assist with project requests related to tariff classifications / duty estimates and determinations
  • Assist in development and communication/delivery of Trade Compliance Training

Requirements

  • BS/BA with 3 years related experience; OR an Associate’s degree and 4 years related experience; OR 6 years of related experience in lieu of degree
  • Strong organizational, analytical and research skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • The ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Access

Qualifications

  • Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) experience
  • Familiarity with 19 CFR
  • Familiarity with Free Trade Agreements, specifically USMCA
  • Familiarity with CTPAT

Pay

Starting salary range of $78,000 – $100,000 USD Pay Offered Dependent On Knowledge, Skills, And Experience

Schedule

Hybrid (4 days per week in-office / 1 day remote)
