Job Overview
The Senior Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Advisor is a key position responsible for driving HSE initiatives and ensuring regulatory compliance at our site. This role demands strong leadership and accountability to achieve short-term and long-term HSE goals while fostering a culture of safety awareness and accountability among site personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement safety protocols, risk assessments, and procedures for various activities, including crisis management, hazardous waste management, and contractor safety.
- Lead and/or develop contractor prequalification, onboarding, monitoring, and performance evaluation, ensuring alignment with site HSE expectations and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct site audits, oversee compliance assurance programs, and lead corrective action implementation efforts to ensure 100% compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance on HSE issues to site management, driving initiatives to reduce hazards and prevent injuries at the site.
- Investigate incidents/accidents and develop action plans for prevention, measuring and tracking site HSE metrics such as incident rates and training completion.
- Manage chemical, regulatory, and environmental permits for the site, staying updated on regulatory changes and trends to anticipate site impacts.
- Serve as the primary contact with regulatory agencies on HSE matters, supporting operations leaders in fulfilling their HSE responsibilities effectively.
- Actively influence and hold site leadership accountable for HSE performance through coaching, data-driven insights, and regular engagement with supervisors and managers.
- Participate in and support the Management of Change (MOC) process to ensure HSE risks are identified, evaluated, and mitigated prior to operational or process changes.
- Maintain expertise in EHS regulations and provide support to the operations team, supporting facilities in identifying safety-critical equipment and developing maintenance plans.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma/GED with 10 years of relevant HSE experience. A bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or Environmental Science is preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years of HSE experience, with at least 5-7 years in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Experience with Gensuite software is preferred.
