About the role
As a Lead Histology professional, you’ll play an important role in ensuring the quality and accuracy of the tissue samples that support diagnosis and treatment. Alongside performing hands-on histology work, you’ll help guide daily lab operations, support team members, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys combining technical expertise with leadership and wants to make a meaningful impact in a collaborative lab environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform all histology procedures, including tissue preparation, slide staining, and specialized techniques such as immunohistochemistry
- Support daily lab operations by coordinating workflows and helping assign tasks
- Provide training, guidance, and support to staff and students
- Aid in developing and maintaining standard operating procedures
- Help implement and monitor quality control and quality assurance programs
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure proper preventive maintenance
- Troubleshoot instruments and processes to keep the lab running efficiently
- Track, review, and analyze laboratory data to identify trends and improvements
- Use laboratory systems to document and report patient test results
- Care for inventory and ensure lab supplies are well managed
- Support compliance with regulatory and safety standards
- Collaborate on research projects and assist with validating new methods or equipment
Qualifications
- License to practice as a Histotechnologist or Clinical Laboratory Technologist in the State of New York; or Eligibility for licensure as a Histotechnologist or Clinical Laboratory Technologist in the State of New York.
- Bachelor’s degree in Histological Technology and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time histology experience including the performance of advanced staining procedures (immunohistochemistry, tinctorial staining and in-situ hybridization); or
- Bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences, Clinical Laboratory Technology, or a related discipline and the equivalent of four (4) years of full-time histology experience including the performance of advanced staining procedures (immunohistochemistry, tinctorial staining and in-situ hybridization); or
- Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related scientific discipline and the equivalent of six (6) years of full-time histology experience including the performance of advanced staining procedures (immunohistochemistry, tinctorial staining & in-situ hybridization).
Benefits
The starting annual salary for this position is $70,579 and this will include an additional geographic differential of $6.04/hr. This will include a full comprehensive benefits package.
