Senior Histotechnician

Lead the operation and ensure consistent accuracy in processing tissue sections and staining within the histo-lab, demonstrating efficient work habits and flexibility.

Responsibilities

• Process sections of body tissue by accessioning, frozen section, assisting with grossing, fixation, dehydration, embedding, microtomy, decalcification, coverslipping, routine HE staining, special staining, and immunohistochemistry.
• Prepare tissue specimens for both immediate and routine microscopic examination and evaluation.
• Independently operate HE stainer, embedding system, microtome, tissue processor, auto scanners, and BondRX Lecia auto-stainer.
• Identify tissue structures and their staining characteristics.
• Perform and monitor quality control within predetermined limits.
• Organize work and activities to achieve maximum productivity.
• Collaborate with supervisor to generate SOPs, validation plans, and reports.
• Design IHC projects with scientists, lead sample processing, and manage projects.
• Serve as a point of contact to interact with external pathologists or pathology service labs.
• Work closely with scientists and technologists from the general lab, providing training as needed.
• Handle internal histo-service requests and coordinate with the data accessioning team to complete tasks.
• Demonstrate professional conduct and interpersonal communication skills with laboratory personnel and staff at all levels.
• Maintain a safe working environment compliant with established policies and regulatory agency requirements, adapting positively to workplace changes.
• Assess situations, consider alternatives, and independently choose appropriate courses of action.
• Comply with organization and department policies, participate in programs supporting the laboratory’s mission, and pursue professional growth.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, CAP, safety, and HIPAA regulations.
• Perform all other assigned duties.

Requirements

• Minimum BA/BS in Biology and 5 years of related experience; prefer Histologist (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) certified by ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) or HT certification for a minimum of 5 years.
• Visual acuity and above-average dexterity.
• May come into contact with viral and bacterial infections, bloodborne pathogens, and occasional exposure to toxic substances.
• Capable of moderate walking, standing, and/or sitting.
• Ability to stand, sit, walk, lift (no more than 20 lbs.), bend, stoop, and possess normal or corrected vision, hearing, and good manual dexterity.
• Ability to lift or carry no more than 20 pounds or push/pull no more than 50 pounds.
• Ability to read, write, speak fluently, and comprehend the English language.

Pay

Reasonable estimate of the current range: $75,600 USD - $113,400 USD.
