About the role
The Electrification Solutions New Markets (ESNM) organization within Vehicle Mechatronic Embedded Controls (VMEC) has an opening for a Senior HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) Engineer. ESNM operates as a start-up within VMEC, focusing on delivering battery-management solutions for non-automotive applications and unique automotive products.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with system engineering, software development, calibration, testing and validation stakeholders to identify solutions to customer needs.
- Lead planning and execution of work in consultation with test environment customers, technical leaders and management as necessary to support program imperatives.
- Engage with cross-functional team members (within and outside of the immediate agile scrum team) to coordinate on-time delivery to meet requirements.
- Create and maintain simulation models (such as Plant, sensors and actuators, serial data communication and controller models) for creating HIL Test Environments.
- Evaluate, parametrize, and tune the test environment based on system requirements and calibrations.
- Close partnership with test environment users to root cause and address unexpected test results and resolve issues encountered during test execution.
- Provide technical support for test environment user activities.
- Plan, communicate, and coordinate test environment strategy and model/hardware rollout to support applications and features requested by user community as needed.
- Aid initiatives to benchmark and adopt next-generation simulation technology and tools.
- Perform test environment correlation activities based on experimental data.
- Support HIL bench and controller testing (including automated tools).
- Create, maintain, and improve standard architectures.
- Work closely with sources of models and equipment to make sure that common models and other simulation assets are shared between test environment domains and architectures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Software or Computer preferred)
- Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience, with at least 3 years focused on simulation and testing of electronic control modules.
- Experience with MATLAB and Simulink in context of plant model development and integration and basic usage of additional tools for real time simulation.
- Knowledge of vehicle dynamics or high-voltage battery systems and controls (e.g., braking systems, battery charging, engines, electric motors).
- Familiarity with project management tools such as Jira.
- Experience with automation tools, including Jenkins.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and/or C/C++.
- Understanding of automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, FlexRay, Ethernet, SPI).
- Understanding of software version control systems (e.g., Git, Bitbucket).
