About the role
This role offers an opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys hands-on technical work and is interested in learning more about project management. As a Senior Highway Engineer, you’ll bring your experience in highways, streets, and roadway design to lead and support a wide range of projects—from conceptual planning through final design and construction.
Responsibilities
- Lead and prepare complex engineering designs, plans, and drawings for a variety of projects, including urban and rural roadways, highways, and intersections.
- Apply advanced knowledge of transportation engineering principles and stay current on evolving methods and technologies.
- Affiliate with client production.
- Attend and assist in client/contractor/stakeholder meetings to gain a better understanding of client's goals.
- Cook up and coordinate effectively with Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams.
- Responsible for the design, plan production and quality reviews of assigned projects.
- Supervise and mentor engineers, CAD staff, and junior team members, providing leadership, guidance, and professional development.
Requirements
- Registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania required.
- Proven ability to solve complex problems using sound judgment, creativity, and innovation.
- Ability to review the work of others for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with design standards.
- Highly organized with excellent time management skills and a commitment to meeting project deadlines and budgets.
- Collaborative, detail-oriented, and self-motivated with a positive attitude and a passion for team success.
- Working knowledge of PennDOT design criteria, design manuals, and standards.
- Familiar with MicroStation as well as relevant software programs which may include InRoads/OpenRoads, AutoTURN, and ASTA.
- Familiarity with PennDOT ECMS, URMS, AutoTAB, PCIT, and EPS interfaces.
- Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in highway design and plan preparation for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
- Experience in highway design for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission a plus.
