Senior High Voltage Electrical Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and evaluation of high voltage electrical systems (1kV–100kV+), including power supplies and distribution systems
  • Design and develop high voltage power supplies, pulsed power systems, and power disruption/protection circuits
  • Perform system-level design for electromechanical equipment, including power distribution, vacuum systems, high voltage subsystems, control systems, robotics, safety interlocks, and electrostatic chuck technologies
  • Ensure adherence to product development processes including:
    • Requirements definition
    • System architecture
    • Design reviews
    • Verification and validation testing
  • Analyze high voltage systems for performance, reliability, and failure modes, including insulation design, grounding, shielding, and arc prevention
  • Conduct experimental testing, characterize system behavior, and evaluate results for continuous improvement
  • Ensure designs meet safety standards, industry standards (e.g., SEMI), and customer requirements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and offshore partners to deliver robust, manufacturable designs on schedule
  • Select components and materials based on high voltage performance, reliability, and safety considerations
  • Support vendor selection and evaluate supplier capabilities for high voltage components and assemblies
  • Provide technical leadership in risk assessment, safety reviews, and high voltage design best practices

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Minimum 5–10 years of experience in electrical hardware design with a strong focus on high voltage systems (≥1kV up to 100kV)
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • High voltage power supplies
    • Pulsed power or power disruption systems
    • Insulation design, creepage/clearance, and arc mitigation
  • Strong understanding of safety standards and compliance related to high voltage systems
  • Experience leading or contributing to technical design reviews
  • Experience working within formal engineering change processes (ECNs)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in:
    • Semiconductor capital equipment
    • RF power systems
    • Power distribution and control systems
  • PCB design experience using tools such as Altium, PADS, or PSpice
  • Experience with Creo Schematic, Creo Cabling, or AutoCAD
  • Familiarity with Windchill PLM
  • Experience working with global or offshore engineering teams

Our salary ranges are determined by role and level; individual pay is determined based on multiple factors, including job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, work location, and internal equity. The range provides the opportunity for growth and progression as you develop within the role.

Base pay is one part of our U.S. total compensation package which includes eligibility in the Axcelis Team Incentive bonus plan, and comprehensive benefits package (for regular employees working 20+ hours a week).
