About the role

As the Senior Heritage Planner, you will apply your expert knowledge to support strategic planning across City of Newcastle, acting as the key technical resource for heritage matters. You will lead and contribute to heritage studies, strategies, policies and planning controls, ensuring heritage is effectively integrated into decision-making while supporting appropriate growth and aligning outcomes with legislation, best practice and Council priorities.

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge in heritage planning
  • Experience in leading and contributing to heritage studies, strategies, policies and planning controls
  • Ability to integrate heritage considerations into decision-making processes
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Experience working cross-functionally with internal teams, agencies, consultants and the community
  • Ability to mentor staff and build team capability

Qualifications

  • Postgraduate degree in Heritage Studies or related field
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in heritage planning
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and best practices
  • Experience in leading and contributing to heritage studies, strategies, policies and planning controls

Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools

Pay

$77,166.06 + 17.5% annual leave loading yearly payment + 12% Superannuation per annum for a 21-hour week
