Duties

  • Supports the CDPH mission and strategic plan by planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing a statewide licensing program for the safe use of radioactive materials.
  • Serves as the first-line supervisor for a team of Health Physicists (HPs) responsible for the licensing, inspection, and regulatory oversight of radioactive materials.
  • Provides technical leadership and direction in applying advanced health physics principles and regulatory standards to protect workers, the public, and the environment.
  • Assigns and monitors work, reviews and approves licensing actions based on technical evaluations and staff recommendations, and ensures alignment with departmental policies and regulations.
  • Conducts performance evaluations, mentors staff, supports professional development, and leads initiatives to enhance program efficiency and regulatory effectiveness.
  • Acts as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders, contributes to strategic planning efforts, and ensures unit preparedness for audits and reviews by external parties.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Health Physics, Radiation Biology, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in health physics, radiation safety, or a related field.
  • Experience in managing and supervising a team of professionals.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations governing the use of radioactive materials.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of health physics principles and regulatory standards.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of individuals.
  • Ability to perform complex calculations and data analysis.

Pay

$8,421.00 - $11,794.00 per year
