About the role

Kleinfelder is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for our Salt Lake City, UT office. The ideal candidate will serve as the geotechnical technical lead on medium to large projects of varying complexity, mentor junior staff, and perform geotechnical engineering analyses for a variety of private commercial, public, and power projects.

Responsibilities

• Serve as geotechnical technical lead on medium to large size projects of varying complexity.
• Mentor and direct junior staff to perform field activities including geotechnical drilling, laboratory testing, and construction observations with subcontractors.
• Perform and oversee geotechnical engineering analyses and prepare geotechnical reports for design and construction.
• Review work of and mentor junior staff.
• Build relationships with clients and subcontractors.
• Develop and grow business with current clients by driving technically excellent geotechnical recommendations.
• Provide quality technical leadership and project management on transportation, commercial, municipal, power, and water projects.
• Oversee geotechnical evaluations including:
  • Engineering for soft soil conditions
  • Shallow and deep foundation design
  • Ground improvement techniques
  • Earthquake engineering
  • Rock mechanics
• Oversee drilling and soil/rock classification.
• Perform construction oversight including subgrade observations, backfill and compaction observation, and deep foundation installation.
• Write proposals and manage scope, budgeting, and scheduling.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in civil (geotechnical) or geological engineering.
• Minimum of 12 years of consulting experience in the geotechnical field.
• PE or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Minimum of 5 years of technical or project management experience on transportation projects; experience on alternative delivery projects in Utah is a plus.
• Experience with geotechnical field investigations and geologic conditions/hazards in Utah and surrounding states.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software including Slope/W or SLIDE, SHAFT, LPILE, APILE, Settle3, gINT/BoreDM, Slide/SlopeW, L-Pile, Group, GRL WEAP, Settle 3D.
• Experience with geotechnical engineering analyses without the use of geotechnical software.
• Strong technical writing abilities for geotechnical investigation reports.
• Valid driver’s license.
