About the role
The Senior Mine Geologist leads ore control and grade management to maximize ore recovery, minimize dilution, and ensure accurate material classification across the production value chain. The role integrates geology, engineering, and operations through delivery of high-quality geological models, mine planning support, and effective reconciliation and stockpile management, while adhering to environmental, health and safety, and company standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead ore control programs including sampling, mapping, and ore/waste delineation to support daily mining decisions.
- Develop, maintain, and optimize short-term geological models to support accurate ore delineation and mine planning.
- Optimize dig polygons and material routing to maximize value and minimize dilution.
- Monitor and manage blast movement impacts on ore boundaries.
- Oversee stockpile management and material tracking to ensure accurate material accounting.
- Interpret geological, structural, and assay data to maintain and update ore control models.
- Maintain and validate geological databases, ensuring data integrity and reliability.
- Deliver timely updates to short-term models to support mine planning and operations.
- Support reconciliation across geological models, mine production, and mill performance.
- Provide geological input to mine planning and define ore boundaries, dig lines, and material classifications.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, survey, and metallurgy teams to align ore control execution.
- Support drill programs including planning, sampling, logging, and data validation.
- Conduct geotechnical mapping and logging, update structural models, and report relevant information to the geotechnical team for pit wall stability.
- Identify and implement improvements in ore delineation, sampling practices, and recovery performance.
- Champion safety, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive adherence to standardized workflows.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology or a related field, required.
- 5+ years of experience in open pit mine geology and ore control.
- Experience supervising and overseeing small teams, preferred.
- Strong experience in open pit mining environments, preferred.
- Experience with geological mapping, drilling programs, and data analysis.
- Strong experience with geological modelling platforms (Deswik, Leapfrog, Maptek, etc.).
- Strong experience with geological databases (acQuire or similar systems).

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
