WSP is seeking a Senior Geologist with 5 or more years of consulting experience to join our Alaska Team. We offer flexible working arrangements to support work/life balance, with an office in Anchorage, Alaska.

About the Role

WSP’s Alaska Team delivers multi-disciplinary projects, including geotechnical investigations, near-surface geophysical investigations, geological mapping, and related services to a diverse client base—industrial/commercial companies, local and state agencies, and the federal government. Project locations range from local to statewide. The team is supported by in-house experts in engineering, environmental remediation, and graphics/GIS, as well as access to global subject-matter experts.

This position requires a self-motivated candidate who can work as part of local, regional, or national project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with key clients by providing technical expertise, attending client meetings, and leading project development pursuits.
  • Supervise and manage geologists to perform geologic and/or geotechnical investigations.
  • Plan and manage simple and complex subsurface field geologic exploration programs, including geotechnical drilling and test pit explorations.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and interpret geologic, hydrogeologic, or similar data obtained during field investigations to develop conceptual geologic models.
  • Review geologic samples and geologic unit identification, assign laboratory testing, and supervise the preparation of exploration records.
  • Provide direction on the installation of monitoring wells and geotechnical instrumentation (e.g., vibrating wire piezometers, inclinometers, transducers).
  • Interpret geologic data and write geotechnical and geologic reports.
  • Conduct geologic research and write project proposals and reports.
  • Provide technical direction, oversight, mentoring, and training to junior-level staff.
  • Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to deliver future-ready solutions for clients.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • B.S. or higher in Geology, Geophysics, Hydrogeology, or a related discipline.
  • 5 or more years of geology (or related) consulting experience.
  • Willingness to work in the field conducting physically rigorous geologic data collection in a variety of terrain and weather conditions.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, with demonstrated report-writing experience.
  • Consistent and highly accurate project work.
  • Ability to work efficiently and demonstrate effective organizational skills.
  • Comfortable working within both small and large project teams to achieve objectives.
  • Flexibility to work outside of business hours when necessary.
  • Proficiency with MS Office: Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Must pass a drug test, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company's driving (MVR) policy.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in a related field.
  • Professional geologist registration.
  • Experience managing complex subsurface investigations, including geotechnical drilling, soil classification, monitoring well installation, and instrumentation.
  • Experience managing mid- to large-size, multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Specialized computer skills, including database applications, ArcGIS, and gINT (or similar platform).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120).
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training.
