About the role

This opportunity provides technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase environmental work processes, due diligence, subsurface investigation, and remediation projects. Conducts geophysical surveys and performs analysis of geological data from various media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air/vapor).

Responsibilities

  • Determine well-defined data collection methods for extracting, identifying, and compiling environmental data from soil sampling, soil gas sampling, groundwater sampling, stormwater sampling, boring logs, and other matrices for projects, investigations, and surveys.
  • Afford assistance with environmental site assessments (Phase I and II).
  • Conduct research on environmental hazmat databases regarding historical property land uses.
  • Coordinate site investigation, subsurface boring and trenching oversight, and monitoring of groundwater and extraction well installations.
  • Afford oversight of drilling subcontractors during sample collection, well installations, and well abandonment.
  • Prepare data and visualizations such as mineral charts, soil analyses, groundwater modeling, maps geologic cross-sections, and other illustrations.
  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, analysis, and reporting.
  • Afford assistance with development and scoping of medium-sized projects.
  • Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebook.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to prevent, control, restore, or clean-up chemical and environmental problems and contamination.
  • Afford assistance with equipment/tool performance, calibration, troubleshooting of malfunctions, and inventory control.
  • Afford assistance in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of geologic, hydrogeologic, and chemical data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing action plans for moderate- to high-level threat mitigation activities.
  • Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but is not limited to, the maintenance of sample collection, trench and boring, laboratory documentation, written procedures, monitoring systems, and logbooks.
  • Afford preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to the data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related discipline.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience working as a Geologist.
  • Analytical skills, and proficient with geological research techniques and protocol.
  • Working knowledge with the concepts of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products, and mitigation programs.
  • Working knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Experience sampling soil and groundwater via drilling including direct-push, hollow-stem auger, and other similar drilling methods.
  • Experience in conducting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments in accordance with ASTM guidelines and industry standards.
  • Experience with UST investigations and remediation including investigation of hydro-carbon impacted sites.
  • Experience with evaluation of vapor intrusion and sampling soil gas per DTSC and EPA guidelines.
  • Experience installing groundwater monitoring wells, remediation wells, and soil gas wells.
  • Experience writing groundwater monitoring reports and well installation reports.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
  • Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
  • Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most cost-effective responses that will minimize waste, prevent pollution, and conserve resources.
  • Ability to assertively direct others in the field such as subcontracted drillers, excavation contractors, utility locators, and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Prominent track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Travel requirements may be around 30%, depending on project-specific needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.

Pay

Expected Salary (all locations): $74,200 - $126,000
