About the role

The USA Regional Experiences team’s mission is to grow the US remittance send business by improving the customer experience across the moments that matter most – onboarding, payment, and disbursement. As an engineer on the team, you'll apply your front-end-leaning, full-stack skillset to the customer challenges that matter most for growing Remitly's USA business – delighting the customer segments most critical to that growth. Your work will directly improve the lives of immigrants and their families sending money from the United States while helping build the next generation of trusted, borderless financial services.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with product managers, designers, analysts, and other engineers to gather requirements and deliver scalable, high-quality software solutions with a customer-centric mindset.
  • Lead team projects to design and build solutions for ambiguous and difficult problems spanning multiple technologies (TypeScript, React Native, Java/Kotlin, Go) and systems, dividing features into components and tasks that can be worked in parallel for timely delivery.
  • Pioneer the team's use of modern AI-powered development tools to deliver faster while maintaining quality and security standards.
  • Champion engineering best practices by delivering well-tested, observable, well-documented, efficient, scalable, and resilient systems.
  • Drive improvements to team processes and shape cross-team technical designs.
  • Foster team growth by mentoring peers, conducting code reviews, participating in interviews, and supporting onboarding efforts.
  • Take part in an on-call rotation to ensure the reliability and support of the team's services.
  • Report to the Engineering Manager of the USA Regional Experiences team.

Requirements

  • Strong computer science, web, and native app fundamentals, and knowledge of design patterns.
  • 6+ years of software development experience.
  • Experience using AI throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • 3+ years of React or React Native development experience.
  • Expertise in one of the following programming languages: TypeScript, JavaScript, Kotlin, Java, Go.
  • Excellent collaboration skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • 7+ years of professional software development experience, with experience building and operating systems end-to-end.
  • Experience building customer-facing experiences at product scale with TypeScript, React, and native mobile development (iOS/Android, React Native).
  • Proficiency in one or more modern backend languages such as Java, Kotlin, Go, or Python, with a record of delivering production-quality code.
  • Use AI tools in your own software development workflow — from authoring agents that act as force-multipliers that help you scale, to drafting and iterating on technical specs, prototyping or validating concepts using the Claude Code.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and building distributed, large-scale systems with an understanding of service-oriented or microservices architecture.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, including familiarity with managed services.

Skills

Pay

The starting base salary range for this position is typically $180,000-$225,000. In the U.S., Remitly employees are shareholders in our Company and equity is part of our total compensation plan. Your recruiter can share more information about medical benefits offered, as well as other financial benefits and total compensation components offered with this role.

Schedule

Corporate team members are expected to come in at least 50% of the time monthly, typically achieved by coming in three days a week. This creates a consistent, meaningful overlap that supports team norms and business needs. Managers also have the flexibility to set higher expectations based on their team's specific needs. These intentional in-office moments are vital for deepening relationships, fueling creativity, and ensuring your impact is felt where it matters most.
