Senior Food Service Worker, Dining Services
UC Riverside's Dining Services is recruiting for one partial-year career Senior Food Service Worker. The full salary range is $26.69 - $33.18 per hour, based on education, licensure, certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.
About the Role
The Senior Food Service Worker performs a variety of semi-skilled duties related to food preparation, customer service, safety and sanitation, and general cleaning in one or more kitchens and/or dining areas for UCR Dining Services. This role may serve in a leadership capacity over a small group of student staff in a team environment.
This position is scheduled 10 months of the year (September through June), with leave without pay from July through August.
Responsibilities
- Perform semi-skilled duties in food preparation, customer service, safety, sanitation, and general cleaning.
- Lead a small group of student staff in a team environment.
- Demonstrate skill in cutting, slicing, and measuring dry and liquid food ingredients using units such as cup, pint, ounce, quart, and pound.
- Read, speak, write, and understand English to carry out job duties and communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and customers.
- Communicate effectively and professionally using tact and diplomacy.
- Write legibly and record information accurately.
- Perform repetitive tasks according to set procedures and pace, and follow explicit directions.
- Maintain knowledge of sanitation and safety rules, regulations, and procedures for food preparation, service, kitchens, and storage areas.
- Comply with California Health and Safety Codes and the Injury Illness Prevention Program Guidelines.
- Work safely and responsibly, using personal safety gear and reporting unsafe conditions.
- Read, write, perform basic arithmetic calculations, and follow oral and written instructions.
- Count inventory, food, and supplies, and comprehend basic instructions and common food measurements.
- For positions in campus coffee shops or catering operations:
- Lead a group of student workers with little or no supervision at remote locations.
- Operate standard and specialized commercial kitchen equipment.
- Successfully lead a diverse team to complete daily duties.
- Apply proper procedures in heating and retherming food items.
Requirements
- 6 months of experience in food preparation and general maintenance/cleaning in a kitchen and/or dining area within a high-volume food service operation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in a customer service-oriented environment, responding to and meeting/exceeding customer needs.
- For positions in campus coffee shops: Minimum of 3 months of experience working in a coffee shop.
- For positions in catering operations: Minimum of 3 months of experience working in banquet events.
- Ability to read, speak, write, and understand English.
- Skill in communicating effectively and professionally using tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to write legibly and record information accurately.
- Proven ability to perform repetitive tasks and follow explicit directions.
- Knowledge of sanitation and safety rules for food preparation, service, kitchens, and storage areas.
