Pay

$22.90 - $25.00 hourly

Positions in this job classification may be offered on a 9-month basis—salary and paid time off will be adjusted accordingly.

Responsibilities

  • Assist a Food Service Manager in supervising cafeteria operations, including planning production schedules based on serving needs
  • Review work schedules and provide work direction to food service employees
  • Complete reports and maintain records
  • Plan menus, order foods and supplies, and verify received goods against requisitions and invoices
  • Conduct on-the-job training for food service personnel
  • Follow Hazardous Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) principles to ensure safe and sanitary conditions
  • Determine student eligibility for free and reduced-price meals using established criteria
  • Track meals served by eligibility category
  • Perform typical Food Service Worker duties, such as:
    • Preparing and serving breakfasts, nutrition breaks, and lunches, including meals for other sites
    • Conducting daily and monthly inventories
    • Receiving money and tickets for foods and beverages
    • Counting cash receipts

Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent, preferably supplemented by courses in nutrition, record keeping, or bookkeeping
  • One of the following:
    • Completion of at least three semester units (or equivalent) of adult school or college-level courses in supervision
    • Completion of a corporate-sponsored training course in supervision
    • Completion of the District’s supervision course
    • One year of experience coordinating the production of 500 meals a day or supervising five food service workers
  • Experience: One year of part-time experience (or equivalent) in preparing and serving at least 300 meals a day, or one year of general clerical experience, preferably in Food Service
  • Special: Valid “ServSafe Certificate” issued by the National Restaurant Association or equivalent certificate

Desirable Qualifications

  • Customer-oriented with strong initiative and leadership skills
  • Experience in a lead role within an elementary or secondary school cafeteria serving high volumes of meals
  • Experience working in a commercial kitchen and assisting with large-quantity food preparation and service
