About the role
The Senior Fisheries Engineering Consultant will lead the design and delivery of complex fish passage and fisheries infrastructure projects across the U.S. and Canada. This is a highly technical, hands-on role requiring deep, direct experience performing fisheries engineering design and analysis across multidisciplinary systems, including structural, civil, hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical.
Responsibilities
- Lead multidisciplinary teams of engineers and scientists in the delivery of fish passage and fisheries projects.
- Perform and lead complex fisheries engineering design and analysis across structural, civil, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
- Make technical decisions and actively contribute to design work, maintaining a hands-on role in project execution.
- Manage or support multiple projects, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and quality expectations.
- Review engineering analyses and designs to identify improvements, gaps, and inconsistencies.
- Collaborate with internal teams across disciplines on hydropower, renewable energy, and ecological restoration projects.
- Serve as a technical expert within the organization, supporting mentorship, training, and knowledge sharing.
- Contribute to client interactions and, as applicable, support business development and project management activities.
- Apply multidisciplinary engineering principles to the design of fish passage facilities, hatcheries, and related infrastructure.
Requirements
- A Professional Engineer (PE) license with a BSCE or MS degree, or commitment to obtaining one within a year (P.Eng is a bonus).
- 16+ years of experience in fisheries engineering or a closely related field.
- Expert-level, hands-on experience personally performing fisheries engineering design and analysis on complex projects.
- Strong knowledge of standards and codes applicable to fisheries engineering and related disciplines.
- Specialization in structural, mechanical, hydraulic, or civil engineering.
- Hands-on experience designing fishway projects as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- Ability to work effectively across disciplines from planning and design through construction.
- Experience working with clients, agencies, and contractors during project execution.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, and/or MEP.
- Construction experience, fish hatchery experience, nature-like fishway design, or drawing development.
- Familiarity with regulatory and permitting processes related to fisheries engineering.
- Experience collaborating with regulators and biologists.
Qualifications
- Permanent authorization to work in the United States and ability to acquire authorization to work in Canada when required.
- Willingness to travel (approximately 0–10%) and possess a valid driver’s license.
