Senior Fire Protection Engineer
About the Role

As a professional services firm, we are seeking a Senior Fire Protection Engineer to join our growing North America Fire Protection Engineering Team. Your role as a senior contributor is to work independently on large projects of high complexity and lead a team or project through all phases of the project lifecycle. You will assist in developing and growing a fire protection engineering group equipped with up-to-date engineering and design tools, technical and supervisory capabilities, and operating procedures to successfully execute projects and consulting services.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for large projects of high complexity.
- Conduct building, fire, and life safety code reviews and analyses.
- Prepare and present technical reports and presentations.
- Engage in design development through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other formats.
- Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members, external consultants, owners, contractors, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Participate in client meetings, value analysis, and basic cost estimating.
- Provide direct supervision to assigned staff; develop staff skills and abilities through guidance and mentoring.
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers.
- Assist in the development of new standards and specifications for the fire engineering group.
- Develop project scope, budget, and design approach for projects of various sizes and complexities.
- Assist with business development activities, including proposal development and presentations.
- Oversee and manage multiple concurrent projects.
Requirements
- Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of building codes and NFPA standards.
- Familiarity with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of fire suppression and fire alarm systems, both design and commissioning preferred.
- Checks the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manages time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Participates and collaborates in project team settings with internal and external clients.
- Strong technical writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, and AutoCAD.
- Experience with CFD modeling software (e.g., FDS, ASCOS) is preferred but not required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Fire Protection Engineering or related engineering discipline. Master’s in Fire Protection preferred but not required.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) who has passed the fire protection engineering examination administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying required.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
Pay
- Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & various CA, NJ, VA areas: $117,800.00 - $176,800.00 annually.
- Locations in WA, DC & various CA, MA, VA areas: $126,400.00 - $189,600.00 annually.
- Locations in NYC & CA (Bay Area) & NJ (RP): $134,900.00 - $202,500.00 annually.
In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. The final agreed-upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. Certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
