Senior Financial Reporting Accountant, Upstream
Caturus, founded by Kimmeridge – an alternative asset manager focused on the energy sector – supports Kimmeridge’s goal of providing low-cost energy on demand with the lowest carbon footprint. The platform aims to build the only independent, fully integrated natural gas and LNG export platform in the U.S. through upstream operations and Commonwealth LNG, a 9.5 million tonnes per annum liquefied natural gas export terminal in southwestern Louisiana. Caturus is a Houston-based private exploration and production company growing production in the Eagle Ford, Austin Chalk, and Haynesville formations while prioritizing safety. Commonwealth LNG re-engineers the LNG construction model with a focus on safety, risk management, and environmental standards.
About the role
Caturus is seeking a detail-oriented Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting to support the Financial Reporting function for the upstream business unit. This individual will assist in preparing timely, external U.S. GAAP-compliant financial statements for Caturus Energy, LLC, coordinate with external auditors, and collaborate with other Accounting functions. The role reports to the Manager, Financial Reporting at the Caturus corporate headquarters in Houston, TX.
Responsibilities
- Prepare periodic external financial statements and footnotes, assist with internal management reports, reports for bank compliance, and ad hoc reports
- Assist in the preparation of consolidated financial reporting deliverables for Caturus Energy, LLC
- Prepare MD&A for Caturus Energy LLC as required by certain indentures
- Analyze operating trends, liquidity, working capital, and key financial ratios
- Research new accounting pronouncements and assist in their implementation
- Support the primary financial statement audit liaison with external auditors; prepare and organize audit deliverables (PBCs)
- Assist with process improvements to enhance reporting efficiency, data quality, and control effectiveness
- Apply key oil & gas industry accounting standards, including ASC 606 (revenue recognition), ASC 842 (lease accounting), asset retirement obligations (ARO), and related standards
- Maintain debt covenant compliance calculations and reporting
- Ensure deadlines are met for monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with reporting requirements
- Assist management with due diligence for potential acquisitions and other transactions
- Handle special accounting and analytics projects assigned by management
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required
- CPA license or active pursuit of CPA licensure strongly preferred
- 3+ years of relevant accounting and financial reporting experience
- Big 4 public accounting experience highly desired; upstream experience a strong plus
Skills
- Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP financial statement preparation; SEC financial reporting a plus
- Knowledge of specialized technical accounting applicable to oil and gas companies; upstream preferred
- Proficient in accounting technical pronouncements, research, and analysis
- Exposure to SOX 404 internal controls over financial reporting preferred
- Strong oral and written communication skills to interface effectively with management and auditors
- Strong data management skills; ability to format, model, and analyze
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Highly organized, proactive, and eager to collaborate, learn, and expand knowledge base
- Ability to perform under pressure and adjust to meet frequently changing needs and requirements
