The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago's Financial Markets Group advances financial policy and robust market practices to promote the stability of the U.S. financial system. This role involves analyzing and advising on issues affecting financial markets and financial stability across a broad range of topics as part of the Research, Policy, and Public Engagement function.

About the role

As part of a multidisciplinary and collaborative team, the Senior Financial Markets Specialist will develop data-focused analysis and work alongside policy advisors to conduct applied research on policy issues affecting financial markets and the stability of the financial system. This is an opportunity for an experienced professional from industry, academia, or a regulatory environment to produce high-quality, impactful work directly connected to the responsibilities of the Federal Reserve.

Responsibilities

  • Directly contribute to research and communicate findings to the public through published reports and presentations.
  • Support development of internal policy analysis to advance Bank objectives related to monetary policy and financial stability.
  • Advise the Reserve Bank President, other senior Bank leaders, and policymakers on matters related to your area of expertise through written analysis and presentations.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with financial industry leaders and key internal and external stakeholders to advance Bank-level objectives.
  • Contribute to a highly collegial and collaborative work environment.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in finance, economics, business, or public policy, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience as an industry participant, regulator, or academic scholar.
  • Substantive knowledge of domestic and global financial markets and/or market infrastructures.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent people and project management skills.
  • Commitment to public service.
  • Strong ability to work with and analyze complex data sets using R and Python.
  • Public speaking skills a plus.
  • Travel approximately up to 10%.

This position requires access to confidential supervisory information and/or FOMC information, limited to "Protected Individuals" as defined in U.S. federal immigration law. Candidates who are not U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents may be eligible for sponsorship for a work visa and subsequently for permanent residence if they sign a declaration of intent to become a U.S. citizen and meet other eligibility requirements.

As a condition of employment, employees must comply with the Bank’s ethics rules, which generally prohibit employees, their spouses/domestic partners, and minor children from owning securities of banks or savings associations or their affiliates. If you or your spouse/domestic partner or minor child own such securities, you must be willing and able to divest them if you accept an offer of employment.

Pay

The expected starting salary range for the Senior Financial Markets Specialist position is between $143,500 and $160,000 annually, in addition to annual performance-based discretionary bonuses. The expected starting salary range for the Financial Markets Specialist position is between $115,200 and $136,300 annually, in addition to annual performance-based discretionary bonuses. Final salary will be determined based on relevant experience, skills, internal equity, and market data.

Full time, exempt position.
