About the role

Primary focus of this role is to provide guidance and assistance to account teams and clients by using financial decision-making tools, conducting client-facing meetings when appropriate, speaking effectively on behalf of the Financial & Actuarial Consulting team regarding core services, and acting as a mentor/coach to others on the team.

Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced skills to provide and present monthly, quarterly, and annual reports that measure client financial status, track expenses by product line, renewal projections, funding levels, and rates.
  • Communicate with Account Management teams and clients about abnormal conditions arising from the evaluation of these reports.
  • Train and mentor subordinates.
  • Maintain proficiency and understanding of various proprietary models and tools to calculate financial results.
  • Analyze data from carriers on complex clients and provide recommendations to Account Management teams or clients to effectively negotiate rates and funding levels.
  • Prepare, analyze, and consult on various client deliverables as defined by the scope of services of the Financial & Actuarial Consulting team.
  • Demonstrate understanding of whether analysis “makes sense” and think beyond the numbers on the page.
  • Conduct activities for special assignments as assigned by management.
  • Maintain workflow tracking applications or logs as established by management and departmental guidelines.
  • Be familiar with and communicate contract documents (e.g., summary of plan descriptions, Administrative Agreements) to guide subordinates in contract reviews and speak knowledgeably about them to consultants and clients.
  • Evaluate, assign, monitor, and peer-review reports generated by Financial & Actuarial Consulting team subordinates when requested.
  • Demonstrate competence in collecting required data and materials for successful project completion with minimal supervision.
  • Serve as an expert resource to branch office staff to contribute toward measurable ROI of services and retention of clients.
  • Stay abreast of local market trends to ensure branches have the tools needed to stay competitive.
  • Assist in preparing presentations, campaigns, communication materials, newsletters, etc., for internal staff and clients/prospects regarding underwriting policies and scope of services.
  • Manage escalated service issues to productive outcomes.
  • Oversee communication from Analyst positions regarding processes and data needed to effectively analyze client financial status.
  • Peer-review and suggest improvements for materials and notices shared across the region and/or divisional Financial Benefits Consulting team.
  • Independently and successfully manage client accounts and workload.
  • Articulate the format, content, and logic of all underwriting tools and client reports.
  • Work with broad and unscheduled assignments requiring originality and ingenuity to develop best practices.
  • Present new ideas/processes for improved client deliverables and team efficiency.
  • Participate in and assist with conducting regularly scheduled Financial & Actuarial Consulting team meetings; lead sub-region Champion calls.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with all internal and external partners by demonstrating customer focus and work ethic.
  • Provide assistance as needed to any member of the Financial & Actuarial Consulting team or branch location, including on-site client meetings.
  • Effectively navigate through conflict and build positive relationships with outside vendors.
  • Coach and mentor team members and less experienced staff.
  • Lead and facilitate client meetings independently.
  • Participate in team meeting trainings.
  • Adopt a solutions-focused approach for addressing and resolving internal and external challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience with a Broker or Carrier, focusing on Health and Benefits.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows applications and Microsoft Office.
  • High degree of understanding of employee benefits funding mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with carrier reporting systems.

  • Competency with Microsoft Office and ability to work in a Windows environment.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to write and use formulas effectively.
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to persuade others to provide necessary items within pre-established timeframes.
  • Ability to prioritize and communicate effectively to manage expectations.
  • Superior problem-solving and analytical skills allowing tasks to be completed without supervision.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively to meet deadlines and maintain smooth schedules.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Initiative to continue growing personally and professionally as industry and business needs change.
  • Ability to work professionally as a team member in a group with diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead/manage others, including effective delegation.
