About the Role

The Senior Accountant provides accounting support for a multi-state company at the corporate level. Working with the controller, corporate accounting manager, and staff, the role supports project cost accounting, financial statement preparation, trial balance reconciliations, audits, and other accounting functions. The Senior Accountant applies company policies and GAAP to manage controls, budgets, and reporting systems that mitigate risk and enhance financial accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, examine, or analyze accounting and financial records, systems (including non-financial systems), and activities for effective and efficient use, data accuracy, and integrity using GAAP.
  • Collect and analyze data to detect deficient controls, duplicated effort, excess or extravagance, regulatory or legal non-compliance, fraud, or mismanagement.
  • Ensure compliance with ASC 842, including tracking lease schedules, preparing journal entries, and collaborating with operations and legal on lease-related transactions.
  • Report to management about asset utilization and related audit results; recommend improvements for financial activities.
  • Review accounts for discrepancies and perform reconciliation activities.
  • Analyze operations, monitor trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to project revenues or expenses.
  • Provide accounting support for large projects.
  • Prepare documentation and support for internal and external audits.
  • Perform closing process activities, including analyzing accounts and transactions, applying GAAP to prepare journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Create standard work processes to improve the accuracy and timeliness of the close process.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and controls, including accounting policies, data integrity, asset protection, segregation of duties, budgeting, financial reporting, and information systems.
  • Perform other duties as necessary and requested.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a senior accounting function.
  • Lease accounting experience following ASC 842 guidance.
  • Experience with mergers and acquisitions purchase accounting calculations support.
  • ERP knowledge and experience required; MS Dynamics 365 experience highly preferred.
  • Heavy experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process.
  • Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • High-level and complex problem-solving skills, with the ability to make informed decisions.
  • Strong critical thinking, deductive and mathematical reasoning, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to interpret data and resolve varying situations using written and verbal comprehension.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to plan, prioritize, and work within deadlines.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and other MS Office products.

Working Conditions

  • Normal temperature-controlled office environment.
  • Frequent use of a computer, keyboard/mouse, telephone, and office equipment.
  • Extended periods of sitting; occasional walking and lifting up to ten pounds.
  • Occasional walking over uneven outdoor terrain, exposure to inclement weather, non-temperature-controlled environments, or warehouse-type settings.
