About the Role
Responsible for the preparation of the Credit Union’s financial statements (including income statement and balance sheet) and regulatory reporting functions (including NCUA 5300 Call Reports). Conduct financial research, variance analysis, and recommend actions. Perform daily, weekly, and month-end processes, such as journal entries and account reconciliations. Ensure reports, accounts, systems, policies, and practices adhere to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and are in legal and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Prepare financial statements, maintain general ledger accuracy, complete financial and regulatory reporting and reconciliations, and ensure compliance with GAAP, applicable regulations, and Credit Union policies and procedures.
- Operate in a reviewer capacity, overseeing GL postings and GL reconciliations.
- Assist with period-end close activities, including accruals, and develop internal partnerships to proactively identify and record necessary entries.
- Review journal entries and reconciliations prepared by Staff Accountants.
- Assist the Controller with internal and external audit document preparation.
- Prepare NCUA Call Report (5300).
- Assist with implementing audit recommendations and strengthening internal controls.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve operational efficiency.
- Document accounting procedures and workflows.
- Train and mentor junior accounting staff through careful review of work and leading by example.
- Attend meetings as required and participate on assigned committees.
- Prepare GL reconciliations and journal entries with attention to detail, completeness, and accuracy.
- Assist with annual budgeting and monthly budget variance processes.
- Provide business units with financial analytic support for budget-to-actual reporting, variance analysis, KPIs, project budget, and strategic initiative tracking.
- Complete and present required financial reports, records, projections, and recommendations.
- Work with accounting staff on high transaction volume GL accounts, researching and resolving differences with accounting team and department management partners.
- Complete ad hoc accounting projects as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education/Certification: 4-year college degree in Accounting or Finance, plus 5-8 years of related accounting experience, preferably in a financial services environment or a comparable combination of education and experience.
- Practical knowledge of accounting principles.
- Understanding of Bank or Credit Union Balance Sheet.
- Knowledge of NCUA Call Reporting.
- General Ledger posting experience.
- Management and Regulatory reporting experience.
- Reconciliation experience.
- Intermediate-level Excel/Word skills.
- Knowledge of finance, financial research, and reporting.
- Understanding of economic market and industry conditions.
- Familiarity with related laws and regulations.
- Foundational knowledge of a Bank or Credit Union Balance Sheet.
- Understanding of asset liability management, cash flow modeling, and budget preparations/reviews.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Pay
Salary: $85,000 - $95,000 per year (depending on experience).
