Role Overview
The Senior Financial Accountant strives to ensure adherence to the Company's financial plans, policies, accounting practices and procedures. This role assists in maintaining fiscal records and preparing financial reports using knowledge of insurance accounting principles and statutory reporting.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates the Company’s mission, while successfully performing its core values related to integrity, service, excellence, stability, strength, respect, and teamwork.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
- Aid in external financial reporting and federal, state and local tax reports.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and responding to inquiries.
- Prepare financial and statistical reports required by management and outside contacts.
- Aid in the implementation and documentation of financial management goals, policies, procedures and controls.
- Provide recommendations for procedural improvements.
- Communicate and coordinate information with other areas in the Company.
- Produce accurate work while meeting established guidelines and schedules.
- Maintain monitoring changes in accounting standards and regulatory requirements; recommend, document and implement necessary changes.
- Lead or support finance-related projects, including system upgrades, process improvements, and automation initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
- Certified Public Accountant, preferred.
- Insurance industry experience is preferred, and/or Workday Finance experience a plus.
- Problem solving and analytical skills, required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to work on own initiative recognizing the timeliness of all responsibilities and functions of the job is required.
- Strong organizational skills with the proven ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and perform effectively are required.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and maintain confidential information with professionalism and discretion is required.
- Proficient in the use of computers and standard business software applications, such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
