Senior Field Service Specialist

Performs complex electrical apparatus work onsite at customer’s facilities, including electrical testing, preventative maintenance, commissioning, upgrades, and repairs to electrical apparatus. Responsible for troubleshooting, training, establishing LOTO, interacting with customers, and report writing.

Responsibilities

• Execute mechanical and electrical tasks on equipment utilized in power transmission, distribution, and generation at customer facilities.
• Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems.
• Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and clean all components in a substation.
• Lead the following tasks:
  • Transformer Testing – Power factor, TTR, insulation resistance, SFRA, winding resistance, partial discharge, and leakage reactance.
  • Cable Testing – Insulation resistance, tan delta, hipot, TDR, partial discharge, and cable thumper.
  • Circuit Breaker Testing – Insulation resistance, contact resistance, power factor, breaker timing, SF6 gas analysis, CT testing, high current testing, secondary injection testing, and vacuum bottle integrity testing.
• Test both electrical-mechanical and solid-state relays.
• Participate in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment.
• Plan, participate in, and develop safety meetings and training.
• Support management in the planning, scheduling, execution, and cost management of field projects.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology or Military experience preferred.
• At least 10 years of experience in electrical substation testing, construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, assembly, and commissioning.
• Ability to achieve NETA level III or IV within 6 months of employment.
• Project management experience.
• Must pass pre-employment criminal background check and motor vehicle check.
• Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol test, as well as periodic, unannounced random testing.
• Valid driver’s license; willing to obtain an endorsement to operate a combined vehicle weight up to 26k lbs.
• Must be able to lift and maneuver at least 50 lbs.
• Willing to obtain company-paid TWIC card, OSHA 10/30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70E, and CPR training.
• Must be willing to relocate within 60 miles of the hiring regional office.

Skills

• Familiar with industry standards such as NETA, NFPA 70E, OSHA compliance standards, safety laws, and DOT regulations.
• Ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical problems.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Strong PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work well under pressure to meet goals and deadlines.
• Ability to work independently while utilizing excellent judgment.
• Doble DTAF and Power DB knowledge preferred; training will be provided.
• Demonstrated organizational skills, including on-time reporting of time and expenses, weekly status reports, and documentation requirements.
• Responsibility to keep tools, test equipment, and vehicles clean, organized, and up to date with service and calibrations.

Work Environment

• Corporate business hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm, but hours outside of business hours will be required depending on the scope of work.
• Work in close, but safe, proximity to live electrical substations.
• Must be able to work overtime including nights, weekends, and some holidays.
• Must be able to travel on overnight, multi-day, out-of-town projects.
• Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner.
