About the role

As a Field Application Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering Boston Dynamics robotic solutions to our customers, ensuring their seamless integration and operational success. You will collaborate closely with customers to align system capabilities with their operational needs, design site-specific solutions, and oversee the site-level solution architecture and commissioning of robotic systems. This position is on the second shift (2:00 PM – 10:00 PM) and involves up to 30% travel to customer sites.

Responsibilities

  • Spearhead high-impact customer engagements, leading the technical execution of pilots, proof-of-concepts (PoCs), roadshows, and product demonstrations to validate use cases and drive commercial adoption.
  • Analyze and optimize the end-to-end integration lifecycle, identifying architectural or process improvements to accelerate deployment timelines and reduce operational costs.
  • Deliver executive-level technical updates and project reports to leadership, using data-backed insights to showcase progress, risks, and deployment success.
  • Resolve complex field issues by performing deep operational troubleshooting, analyzing log data, and coordinating fixes with internal teams as the primary escalation point.
  • Develop custom technical solutions and tools to streamline integration processes, address customer challenges, and optimize system performance.
  • Design and deliver advanced training programs for customer and partner development teams on complex integrations and advanced features.
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Sales teams to advocate for customer-centric solutions and drive product improvements using field feedback.
  • Ensure adherence to industry standards and regulations, develop Statements of Work (SOWs), and create customer success documentation.
  • Support early-stage testing and integration of new Boston Dynamics products.
  • Proactively gather, systematize, and convey customer feedback to internal teams to champion product enhancements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in field application engineering, systems integration, or technical support for complex hardware/software products, preferably in robotics or industrial automation.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or comparable software applications.
  • Deep technical understanding of electro-mechanical systems, including sensors, actuators, firmware, Linux-based operating systems, and network architecture.
  • Extensive experience collaborating with customers on advanced technical solutions and managing long-term relationships.
  • Ability to lead discussions and convey highly technical concepts to diverse audiences, including executive stakeholders and non-technical teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 30% of the time.

Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of networking protocols, devices, and security (routers, switches, firewalls, VLANs, VPNs).
  • Proficiency in Linux operating systems (Ubuntu) and scripting for system management and automation.
  • Proficiency in Python, C++, TypeScript, Kotlin, or other modern programming languages for scripting, tool development, automation, and troubleshooting.

Pay

The base pay range for this position is $101,000 to $120,000 annually. Base pay depends on factors including internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
