About the role
The Senior Facilities Maintenance Technician is a highly experienced technical professional responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing building and production systems, equipment, and infrastructure in a regulated medical device manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and repair facility systems including HVAC, cleanroom AHUs, HEPA filtration, boilers, chillers, compressors, wastewater, and building automation systems.
- Support critical utilities such as purified water, compressed air, chillwater systems, and environmental controls.
- Monitor and respond to system alarms affecting cleanroom environmental conditions.
- Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on manufacturing and production equipment, including assembly, packaging, and process equipment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control issues impacting production lines.
- Partner with Production and Engineering to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability (OEE).
- Support equipment setup, and calibration activities as required.
- Maintain equipment in a validated state, ensuring compliance with GMP and process requirements.
- Assist with equipment qualifications, including IQ/OQ/PQ, and revalidation activities.
- Identify and implement improvements to enhance equipment performance and reduce failures.
- Execute and optimize PM programs for both facility and production equipment using CMMS.
- Develop predictive maintenance strategies to reduce unplanned downtime.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement CAPA actions.
- Troubleshoot and repair complex issues across facility systems and manufacturing equipment.
- Interpret technical drawings, electrical schematics, and P&IDs.
- Provide rapid response to production-impacting equipment failures.
- Complete all maintenance documentation in compliance with GMP and SOP requirements.
- Support audits by ensuring accurate records for both facility and equipment maintenance.
- Participate in change control and validation processes associated with equipment and systems.
- Support new equipment installations, upgrades, and facility expansions.
- Recommend improvements to increase reliability, throughput, and compliance.
- Participate in Lean/continuous improvement initiatives focused on manufacturing efficiency.
- Mentor junior technicians on both facility systems and production equipment maintenance.
- Cook up with Engineering, Production, Quality, and EHS teams.
- Serve as a technical resource and shift lead when needed.
Qualifications
- Education & Experience: Associate’s degree or technical certification (Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, or related) or equivalent experience. 5–8+ years of experience in facilities and/or production equipment maintenance in a regulated environment.
- Experience: Experience supporting manufacturing equipment in a medical device, pharmaceutical, or biotech setting. Hands-on experience working in cleanrooms (ISO 7/8 or better preferred).
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of HVAC and cleanroom systems. Experience maintaining production equipment (automation, packaging, assembly systems, or process equipment). Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting expertise. Familiarity with PLCs, sensors, pneumatic systems, and automation controls (preferred). Experience with CMMS systems (Blue Mountain RAM preferred). Understanding of GMP, FDA, and ISO standards.
- Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting ability. Ability to prioritize across facility and production demands in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication and documentation skills. Detail-oriented with a strong focus on compliance and reliability.
