About the role

Apogee Research is seeking a Senior Experimentation Engineer to join our Arlington, VA office. The position involves generating hypotheses, designing experiments, analyzing data, and developing practical solutions for impactful problems. The ideal candidate will collaborate with teams to evaluate the reliability and validity of research experiments and will lead the entire experimental process.

Responsibilities

  • Develop methodologies for evaluating the reliability and validity of research experiments and their resulting claims.
  • Generate testable hypotheses from novel claims made by research teams.
  • Lead the end-to-end experimental process, including data collection, analysis, and interpretation of key findings.
  • Create rapid software prototypes to test experimental hypotheses and/or analyze experimental results.
  • Develop mathematical models of experimental results to inform new insights or research directions.
  • Propose innovative solutions and/or compare tradeoffs between multiple approaches.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field (Physics, Computer Science/Engineering, Applied Math, etc.) with 7+ years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 5 years of experience, or a PhD with 2 years of experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with effective communication abilities (verbal and written).
  • Relevant knowledge and experience with statistical methods and hypothesis testing.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Prior experience in one or more of the following domains: Cyber, RF phenomenology, sensing, command and control, and distributed control systems.
  • A DoD Top Secret clearance is required.
  • Relevant programming knowledge and experience with Python, Java, or C/C++.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field (e.g., Physics, Computer Science/Engineering, Applied Math, etc.) with 7 or more years of experience; or a Master’s degree with 5 years of experience; or a PhD and 2 years of experience. They should also possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, effective communication abilities (both verbal and written), relevant knowledge and experience with statistical methods and hypothesis testing, and demonstrated flexibility and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment.

Skills

The ideal candidate should have the ability to learn new technologies and/or develop fundamentally new approaches as needed, and propose innovative solutions and/or compare tradeoffs between multiple approaches.
