Nature of Work
The Senior Estimator provides and coordinates complete estimating services for project pursuits as assigned; manages project pursuit including staff, and consultants.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage estimating and preconstruction efforts on assigned projects.
- Perform critical preconstruction assignments consisting of high value, complex, and high-risk scopes.
- Interact with designers and clients in performance of assignments.
- Coincide with the efforts of the design team on design-build projects as assigned.
- Responsible for training and development of estimating personnel as assigned.
- Responsible for performing cost and risk analysis on assigned projects.
- Provides risk analysis and proposes steps to mitigate risk.
- Identify conflicts and ambiguities within the bid documents and coordinate trades to work towards resolution to ensure complete scope and responsive bid.
- Take part in enhancing and refining established processes to maximize productivity of estimating teams.
- Participate in presentations to clients.
- Conduct internal presentations of projects, and project handoffs.
- Develop a network of relationships with design professionals, owner’s representatives, and clients, while maintaining a broad network of relationships with trade partners.
- Manage and lead project handoff meetings.
- Actively participate in the 360 project review process. Ensure that action items are properly addressed and lessons learned are captured.
- Maintain monitoring of industry news and other sources for potential project pursuits and market trends.
- Communicate these opportunities to estimating leadership and business development.
Qualifications
- Profiency with all estimating project assignments.
- Developed expertise in prime area of concentration.
- Demonstrates advanced level technical skillset in project scheduling, constructability reviews, compiling cost data, cost analysis, budgeting, proposal response, preconstruction services, general conditions and contract requirements review, and value engineering.
- Conducts effective meetings and presentations to a variety of audiences.
- Analytical Thinking - Works simultaneously with broad issues and detailed analysis. Can balance multiple perspectives.
- Demonstrates sound project level leadership (1 direct report).
- Attention to Detail - Ability to work with others on complex tasks while installing tools and checks to ensure accuracy.
- Managing Conflicts - Proactive and empathetic in resolving interpersonal conflict.
Education
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college/university or equivalent experience.
Experience
- 10+ years of relevant work experience.
- Field experience is highly preferred.
Physical Demands and Working Environment
Physical demands for this position are moderate. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be walking, standing, bending or lifting moderately heavy (25-50 pounds) items. The work may require specific but common physical characteristics and abilities such as above-average agility and dexterity.
