Senior Estimator- GR

About the role

The Senior Estimator is responsible for the management and leadership of the Estimating Department, providing estimating services for customers, Sales staff, and project management to secure work for the company. This role involves working closely with executive management, serving in a leadership position during the preconstruction process, and building effective relationships with key stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Develop relationships with General Contractors, Architects, Owners, and Consultants to create opportunities for the company.
• Lead, train, and provide direction for the Estimating Department.
• Identify ways to improve contract gross margin during the bidding process.
• Review estimates provided by the estimating team for accuracy.
• Participate in developing strategies to win projects with the Director of Preconstruction and President.
• Assign responsibilities for the estimating team on each project.
• Review contract documents and coordinate with the team to confirm complete scope.
• Summarize and review final estimates with leadership, highlighting risks and opportunities for profit improvement.
• Review project proposals prior to submission for correct written inclusions, exclusions, and qualifications.
• Develop and maintain a quality control program for the Estimating Department.
• Identify risk issues and their order of magnitude.
• Solicit subcontractor and supplier information and pricing.
• Prepare conceptual budgets based on minimal information.
• Coordinate insurance requirements with the Risk Manager and technical proposal requirements with the Marketing Department.
• Maintain and communicate data on material cost trends affecting project costs.
• Analyze alternate means and methods to determine the most economic alternative during bidding.
• Continuously improve processes for more efficient output and bidding.
• Build effective relationships with customers, design teams, specialty contractors, suppliers, and user groups.
• Actively participate in industry, client, and community relations to enhance company image.
• Participate in the transfer of information on successful projects, including Job Kick-off Meetings.
• Assist in Good Faith Efforts as required.
• Perform and/or manage the quantity survey and pricing effort for internal budgets, including pricing change impacts.
• Track hit rate for individual estimators and salespeople to improve results.
• Use lessons learned on projects for monthly training with the department.
• Perform other related duties as needed.

Requirements

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (preferred).
• Minimum 7 years of estimating/project management experience in the construction field.
• Ability to lead a team in a collaborative manner.
• Previous experience in the millwork industry is preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in problem-solving and analysis.
• Ability to prioritize, multi-task, organize, and implement alternate solutions to challenges.
• Strong sense of urgency and enthusiasm for learning.
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with strong MS Excel skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to travel as needed for the role.
