Senior Estimator

About the Role

This position is accountable for analyzing project plans, specifications, soils reports, and other related project information to determine cost estimates, including materials, labor rates and hours, equipment, supplier costs, and subcontractor costs to prepare bid proposals. The role is office-based with some travel to job sites for estimating purposes. The incumbent must support Orion’s guiding beliefs and core values, centered on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Teamwork, with Integrity as the foundation.

Responsibilities

  • Applies technical skills with minimal guidance, often working independently.
  • Works closely with the Estimating Manager and Project Management Team to ensure success in the bid estimation process for concrete construction projects.
  • Reviews and evaluates requests for estimates.
  • Prepares and/or reviews written proposals for completeness and accuracy.
  • Prepares a weekly bid calendar and ensures timely completion of estimates.
  • Conducts cost analysis in computer systems by recapitulating material, labor, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead costs incurred in installation.
  • Develops and maintains cost data, including labor and equipment rates, installation methods, and production rates.
  • Develops and maintains estimating procedures and guidelines.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all proprietary or trade secret information belonging to the Company.
  • Adheres to all safety responsibilities, including stopping work for unsafe conditions and complying with laws, regulations, and Company policies.
  • Performs other related administrative and technical duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of field and/or estimating experience in structural and light commercial concrete construction, or equivalent work experience.
  • BS Degree in Construction Management or a related discipline (field experience preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, InEight, OST, and MS Project.
  • Ability to perform in high-stress situations and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills for project efficiency.
  • Ability to understand scope requirements based on project documents and customer communication.
  • Excellent time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.

Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, and steel-toed shoes.
  • Ability to identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of management, including corporate and executive.
  • Must remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as directed by safety representatives or management.
  • Capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner during emergencies.

Schedule

Flexibility to work different shifts and long hours (8-12 hours). Weekend work and extra hours may be required based on production needs and at the discretion of the Crew Supervisor.
