About the role

The Senior Estimator is responsible for coordinating bid documents, labor productions, subcontractor and vendor pricing, buyouts, project start-up meetings, owner estimates, requisitions, and cost-to-completes.

Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly investigate specifications, scope of work, and drawings to develop a complete understanding of project requirements.
  • Accurately and timely perform takeoffs, calculations, and analyze data for assigned scope of work.
  • Conduct field visits to gather data on project site conditions, verify production rates, and learn new construction methods.
  • Adjust bid methods and incorporate field data during the bidding process.
  • Negotiate with vendors and subcontractors on pricing, quality, and delivery using company buyout procedures.
  • Develop pricing strategies and price bids for assigned scopes.
  • Serve as Lead Estimator, leading project bids with responsibility for all project price and document submittals.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of contract documents and potential project risks.
  • Make decisions on risk mitigation and pricing.
  • Interface with the Contracts department to address contract risks or issues.
  • Coordinate with Business Development, Engineering, and Operations teams to determine final bid price and construction methodology.
  • Draft proposals per RFP specifications with detailed pricing and clarifications.
  • Instruct junior estimators on supporting tasks for each bid.
  • Manage relationships with client engineers during projects.
  • Manage relationships with contracted designers on design-build projects.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of estimating experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, architecture, or a related field.
  • Experience in performing takeoffs, pricing, and communicating with subcontractors.
  • Experience bidding on large-scale specialty bridges, preferably cable-stayed bridges.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and people skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Track record of achievement and career progression.
  • Experience with Primavera, HCSS, On-Screen Takeoff (OST), and AGTEK is advantageous.
  • Experience with local agencies such as MDOT, VDOT, DC Water, WSSC, WMATA, and VRE.

Work Environment

The role requires the ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments. The employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Pay

Minimum Salary: USD $160,000.00/year
Maximum Salary: USD $180,000.00/year
