About the role

The Senior Estimator is responsible for coordinating bid documents, labor productions, subcontractors, vendor pricing, subcontractor and vendor buyouts, project start-up meetings, owner estimates, subcontract requisitions, and cost-to-completes.

Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly investigate the specifications, scope of work, and drawings for assigned bid portions to develop a complete understanding of requirements.
  • Accurately and timely perform takeoffs, calculations, and data analysis.
  • Conduct field visits to gather relevant data on project site conditions, verify production rates, and learn new construction techniques; adjust bid methods accordingly.
  • Negotiate the best deal for cost, quality, and delivery using the company buyout procedure.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of contract documents and potential project risks; make well-supported recommendations to mitigate and price risks.
  • Interface extensively with the Contracts department to address risks or issues with the contract.
  • Help develop pricing strategies.
  • Coordinate with Business Development, Engineering, and Operations teams to ensure bids are priced and submitted on time.
  • Draft proposals per RFP specifications with detailed pricing and clarifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in estimating, engineering, cost tracking systems, and site surveying.
  • Solid time management and excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word) and plan/spec reading.
  • Experience with Primavera, HCSS, On-Screen Takeoff (OST), and AGTEK is advantageous.
  • Ability to multitask and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills; ability to solicit subcontractors and vendors as needed.
  • Experience with local agencies (NYDOT/MTA/NYDDC).

Pay

Minimum Salary: USD $160,000.00/year
Maximum Salary: USD $180,000.00/year

Work Environment

The role requires the ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments. The employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
