Join a leading mechanical contractor in the Raleigh market as a Senior HVAC Estimator on the preconstruction team. This role is pivotal in securing and delivering large-scale commercial and industrial projects through accurate cost estimates, strategic bidding, and collaboration with project management, operations, and executive leadership. Work on high-profile projects across healthcare, data centers, life sciences, higher education, manufacturing, and commercial construction sectors.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed HVAC estimates for commercial and industrial mechanical construction projects.
- Review drawings, specifications, and project documents to determine scope and pricing requirements.
- Perform quantity take-offs and develop labor, material, subcontractor, and equipment pricing.
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
- Lead bid reviews and present estimating strategies to senior leadership.
- Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving solutions.
- Maintain and develop relationships with general contractors, owners, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Collaborate with project management teams during project handoff and preconstruction phases.
- Analyze historical project data and market trends to improve estimating accuracy.
- Assist with budgeting, conceptual estimates, design-build proposals, and negotiated work.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of HVAC estimating experience within the mechanical construction industry.
- Proven experience estimating commercial HVAC projects ranging from $1M to $50M+.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems including ductwork, piping, chillers, boilers, VRF, controls, and related mechanical systems.
- Experience with design-build and plan-and-spec projects.
- Proficiency with estimating software such as Trimble Autobid, QuoteSoft, FastEST, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
- Strong knowledge of labor productivity, material pricing, and construction means and methods.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to mentor junior estimators and contribute to team development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Experience estimating healthcare, life sciences, industrial, mission-critical, or data center projects.
- Local knowledge of the North Carolina construction market.
- LEED, ASHE, or industry-related certifications are a plus.
