Senior Estimator

Senior Estimator manages and assists in the compilation of estimates for various projects, ensuring cost accuracy and providing appropriate responses to Owners' requirements while maintaining a high level of professionalism in estimating. Reports to the SBU Executive or Chief Estimator as directed.

Responsibilities

  • Champions “The Layton Way” by delivering predictable outcomes for internal teams, external teams, and customers.
  • Ensures “Constructing with Integrity” through honesty, unity, safety, and quality of work.
  • Prepares estimates and supplementary information for potential projects.
  • Reads, understands, and offers improvements to contract documents (plans, specifications, and addenda).
  • Provides Value-Engineering and Life-Cycle cost options for review.
  • Performs quantity take-offs, organizes, prices, and analyzes information.
  • Understands the broader scope of preconstruction services beyond cost estimating.
  • Works with Architects and Owners, providing leadership in the preconstruction process and demonstrating best practices.
  • Solicits bids and quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Creates listings of appropriate contacts for specific projects.
  • Communicates with subcontractors and suppliers to clarify pricing information.
  • Determines the suitability and competitive stance of subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Prepares and analyzes estimate formats in areas such as general conditions, general bidding, quantity takeoffs, and bid analysis.
  • Responsible for the preparation of bid proposals for submittal.
  • Attends Owner meetings during estimate development.
  • Prepares detailed schedules for proposed projects.
  • Initiates various special projects related to estimating and guides staff toward their completion.
  • Creates schematic plans or sketches to illustrate approach and strategy.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction-related field or equivalent education and experience.
  • Over seven years’ experience in estimating commercial construction projects, with competence in hard-bid, design-build, and conceptual estimating.
  • Sufficient knowledge of all construction systems and disciplines, including mechanical and electrical, to complete comprehensive cost estimates without assistance.
  • Good working knowledge of self-performed concrete construction.
  • Experience in estimating at all stages of design: conceptual, schematic, design development, and construction documents.
  • Understands and utilizes proven estimating and bidding strategies.
  • Fully understands and practices the principles of Target Value Design.
  • Ability to utilize the latest estimating software, including Destini Estimator, BlueBeam, Assemble, and other relevant tools.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and coordinate team members.
  • Maintains integrity and adheres to organizational policies in job-related activities.
  • Proficient in operating office equipment, including computers, printers, phones, copiers, and fax machines.
  • Effective written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of construction practices, methods, trends, and crew data.
  • Working knowledge of Revit and Primavera systems.

Pay

The full salary range for this position is $150,000 to $180,000. This position is eligible for a target bonus.
