About the Role
Hill York seeks a dynamic and detail-driven Estimator to play a pivotal role in securing mechanical projects that fuel our growth. In this high-impact position, you will dive into bid specifications and drawings, perform precise pipe takeoffs, and develop competitive estimates to help us win work. You will build strong partnerships with General Contractors, Subcontractors, and Vendors, collaborate with Project Management, and ensure a seamless handoff from bid to build.

Responsibilities
- Evaluate bid specifications and drawings for mechanical systems including, but not limited to, chilled water, condenser water, glycol, and refrigeration.
- Perform accurate takeoffs and estimate associated costs.
- Ensure all bid documents and subcontractor buyout information is accurate before it gets transferred to the Project Management team, aiming for 100% turnover of awarded projects within 24 to 48 hours.
- Submit all bids and budgets by the deadline.
- Prepare and maintain the status of plan reproduction.
- Diligently follow up with and maintain communication with subcontractors and vendors.
- Prepare subcontractor bid packages.
- Ensure proper subcontractor coverage on bid day and contact vendors for additional bids as needed.
- Ensure proper communication of the project schedule or addendums with subcontractors and vendors.
- Enter all relevant information into the estimating software.
- Review bid requirements thoroughly and ask follow-up questions as necessary.
- Develop RFIs and clarifications to ensure adequate subcontractor coverage.
- Perform comprehensive bid day analysis and scoping of specific trades.
- Create and maintain bid lists ensuring the right subcontractors are selected for each project.
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the scope for assigned trades.
- Respond to General Contractors' scope of work timely and review trade scope with subcontractors.
- Collaborate with the Project Management team to review drawings and job costs, identify areas of concern, and address pending subcontractor or material vendor awards.
- Furnish subcontractors with essential project information, including details about the Project Manager, Site Supervisor, and permit status.
- Participate in networking events to represent the company and cultivate relationships with General Contractors and Subcontractors.
- Maintain effective communication with customers, vendors, and internal departments.
- Handle other projects related to the department as necessary.
Requirements
- Minimum 5-10 years of experience working as an estimator in the mechanical contracting industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent relevant experience.
- 3-5 years of experience in the construction industry, specifically in business operations or projects.
- Experience with mechanical systems, including HVAC and duct systems.
- Understanding of margins and sales, with the ability to read specifications, addendums, and RFIs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Project).
- Experience with estimating software (FAST-PIPE, Estimating, Quote Express, and Quickpen).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- Self-motivated with excellent relationship-building skills.

- Ability to work full-time in-office, collaborating closely with operations, engineering, and other departments.
