About the Role

Senior estimators will collaborate closely with architects, engineers, owners, and subcontractors.

Responsibilities

  • Handle the project from the first estimate through subcontracts being formalized.
  • Look beyond provided information to ask the right questions and deliver a complete project cost evaluation.
  • Act as a collaborative and passionate advocate for customers, empowering and informing them throughout the project.
  • Provide innovative solutions to complex issues related to cost, lead-times, trade partners, or specified products/materials.
  • Make reliable cost predictions and estimate across all scopes of work.
  • Prepare detailed conceptual cost estimates and studies from schematic or feasibility-level documentation.
  • Develop variance summaries between estimates and value engineering studies as the design evolves.
  • Assemble presentation-worthy estimate packages that clearly communicate project costs.
  • Collaborate with the project team to establish staffing and project requirements.
  • Understand unit costs and factors affecting construction costs.
  • Prepare detailed instructions to bidders, trade-specific clarifications, and comprehensive bid packages.
  • Manage the bidding process: soliciting bids, communicating with bidders, evaluating subcontractor proposals, and using bid tally sheets.
  • Make subcontractor award recommendations to the customer/owner and negotiate/finalize subcontracts.
  • Lead the preparation and presentation of cost/budget information to the customer/owner.
  • Participate in request for proposal (RFP) responses and formal project presentations.
  • Engage and develop business with new and existing customers.
  • Facilitate value engineering sessions with the project and design teams.
  • Review construction contracts and identify key insurance and damages clauses.
  • Lead, manage, and motivate project teams during the preconstruction phase.

Qualifications

  • Excellent listening and strong communication skills.
  • Creative and innovative approaches to project-specific challenges.
  • Ability to identify, adapt to, and resolve complex issues.
  • Effective participation in team environments, both internal and external.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, estimating software (WinEst, Timberline, or similar), take-off software (On-Screen Takeoff or similar), BIM tools (Revit, Assemble, etc.), project management software (CMiC or similar), and scheduling software (Primavera or similar).
  • 8+ years of experience as a commercial construction estimator, preferably within DPR’s core markets.
  • Bachelor’s degree a plus but not required.
  • Strong work ethic and a “can-do” attitude.

Pay

Anticipated starting pay range: $160,000.00–$205,000.00.

Benefits

DPR offers a variety of medical, dental, vision, and wellness benefits to support your health and well-being.
