About the Role
DPR Construction is seeking a senior estimator with at least 8 years of commercial construction experience. Estimators will work primarily on negotiated commercial projects within our core markets: healthcare, advanced technology, higher education, life sciences, and corporate office. Senior estimators will collaborate closely with architects, engineers, owners, and subcontractors.
Responsibilities
- Handle the project from the first estimate through subcontracts being formalized.
- Look beyond provided information to ask the right questions and deliver a complete project cost evaluation.
- Act as a collaborative and passionate advocate for customers, empowering and informing them throughout the project.
- Provide innovative solutions to complex issues related to cost, lead-times, trade partners, or specified products/materials.
- Make reliable cost predictions and estimate across all scopes of work.
- Prepare detailed conceptual cost estimates and studies from schematic or feasibility-level documentation.
- Develop variance summaries between estimates and value engineering studies as the design evolves.
- Assemble presentation-worthy estimate packages that clearly communicate project costs.
- Collaborate with the project team to establish staffing and project requirements.
- Understand unit costs and factors affecting construction costs.
- Prepare detailed instructions to bidders, trade-specific clarifications, and comprehensive bid packages.
- Manage the bidding process: soliciting bids, communicating with bidders, evaluating subcontractor proposals, and using bid tally sheets.
- Make subcontractor award recommendations to the customer/owner and negotiate/finalize subcontracts.
- Lead the preparation and presentation of cost/budget information to the customer/owner.
- Participate in request for proposal (RFP) responses and formal project presentations.
- Engage and develop business with new and existing customers.
- Facilitate value engineering sessions with the project and design teams.
- Review construction contracts and identify key insurance and damages clauses.
- Lead, manage, and motivate project teams during the preconstruction phase.
Qualifications
- Excellent listening and strong communication skills.

- Ability to identify, adapt to, and resolve complex issues.
- Effective participation in team environments, both internal and external.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, estimating software (WinEst, Timberline, or similar), take-off software (On-Screen Takeoff or similar), BIM tools (Revit, Assemble, etc.), project management software (CMiC or similar), and scheduling software (Primavera or similar).
- 8+ years of experience as a commercial construction estimator, preferably within DPR’s core markets.
- Bachelor’s degree a plus but not required.
- Strong work ethic and a “can-do” attitude.
Pay
Anticipated starting pay range: $160,000.00–$205,000.00.
