Responsibilities
- Prepares and completes estimates for assigned projects for one or more disciplines.
- Performs job duties directly or through subordinate personnel.
- Occasionally travels to attend pre-bid meetings, visit job sites, and/or attend conferences or training classes.
- Works on-site and requires working from the regional office.
- Reviews and incorporates historical data into unit cost, man-hour, and crew production figures.
- Attends pre-bid meetings to determine scope of work and contents of estimate.
- Computes cost factors and prepares estimates for management purposes.
- Reviews, analyzes, and recommends vendors and subcontractors for the project.
- Interfaces with owner, architect/engineer, and subcontractors to provide engineering and cost data.
- Prepares estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work, accurately quantifying and pricing labor, materials, and equipment needed to perform the work.
- Determines cost effectiveness and maintains documents as backup for estimate figures.
- Maintains safety information related to estimate and transfers it to the Project Team.
- Supports other department personnel as required.
- May review design options and recommend the best solution based on cost, value engineering, or availability of materials.
- Follows awarded contracts as assigned, working with the Project Team to estimate extra work items, change orders, credits, procure materials, etc.
- Polices jobsites to maintain a clean, orderly, and safe workplace.
Technical
- Means/Methods Reviews and incorporates historical data into unit cost, man-hour, and crew production figures.
- Reviews proposal specifications and drawings, labor and material requirements, prepares lists of bid items and quantities.
- Computes cost factors and prepares estimates used for management purposes.
- Reviews, analyzes, and recommends vendors and subcontractors for the project.
- Interfaces with owner, architect/engineer, and subcontractors to provide engineering and cost data regarding project feasibility.
- Prepares estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work, accurately quantifies and prices the labor, materials, and equipment needed to perform the work.
- Determines cost effectiveness and maintains documents as backup for estimate figures.
- Supports other department personnel as required.

Safety
- Incorporates the Allan Myers Safety Program and associated costs into estimates.
- Identifies high-risk activities and coordinates with Safety Department to determine if additional costs are required.
- Transfers all safety information related to estimate to the Project Team.

- Acts in a lead capacity and provides work direction to Estimator I and/or other team members as required.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, related major, or equivalent.
- Continuing education in construction is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 4 years of construction experience in estimating, operations, and/or engineering required.
- OSHA 10 hour required.
- Computer systems, preconstruction planning, safety policies and procedures, safe work procedures.
- Relationship management.
