The Food and Drug Branch (FDB) protects public health through science-based enforcement of laws and regulations related to food, cosmetics, drugs, medical devices, and industrial hemp products.

About the Role

This position is for a Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) (SESS) serving as the Food Safety Education and Training Specialist in the Standardization and Continuous Improvement Unit. The incumbent will be headquartered in one of the following counties nearest to their residence: Sacramento, San Joaquin, Santa Clara, Fresno, Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Contra Costa, or San Diego.

The role supports CDPH’s mission by advancing protective measures and reducing health risks through education, training, and collaboration with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, coordinate, develop, implement, and evaluate activities for the statewide Food Safety Education & Training Program.
  • Design and deliver education and training programs focused on preventing microbial contamination and other food safety topics, in collaboration with food industry representatives, state and local regulatory partners, and stakeholders.
  • Collect and analyze data from regulatory training, inspections, and enforcement actions to identify improvement opportunities and develop strategic plans.
  • Review state and federal legislation for potential impacts on food inspection programs.
  • Participate in statewide meetings with key stakeholders.
  • Provide technical assistance to industry and regulatory agencies to enhance food safety practices and standards.

Pay

$7,820.00 - $10,732.00 per month. New state employees are typically hired at the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range, where applicable.

Schedule

Permanent, full-time position with hybrid telework options.
