About the role

We are seeking a Senior Environmental Planner to join our California team. This role supports the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) documentation for large-scale and complex projects, including energy projects such as solar, battery energy storage, geothermal, and nuclear projects.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrated expertise in managing and preparing environmental analyses and technical studies to support CEQA documentation for large-scale and complex projects.
  • Track record of CEQA and/or regulatory permitting for energy projects including renewables, transmission and distribution, and oil/gas.
  • Experience acquiring CEQA clearance and/or key permits and approvals on-time and on-budget, ensuring deliverables meet client expectations.
  • Oversee the preparation of technical sections prepared by specialists, including subconsultants; provide senior review and oversight of CEQA document preparation.
  • Utilize professional judgement and provide recommendations to support the CEQA analysis.
  • Effectively communicate technical information to clients, stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and project teams.
  • Coordinate with a diverse range of stakeholders, including clients, regulatory agencies, community groups, and project teams.
  • Able to manage scope, schedule and budget to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams comprising planners, natural resources specialists, engineers and other professionals.
  • Contribute ideas, share expertise, and support team members to achieve project goals and deliver high-quality results.
  • Deliver CEQA documentation and environmental permits with a proven track record.
  • Lead client engagement to include proposal development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Urban Studies, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 7+ years of relevant professional experience in environmental planning and permitting, or another related field.

Qualifications

  • Ability to travel occasionally to locations in California and other states as needed.
  • Experience with California Energy Commission AB 205 Opt-in process is a plus.
  • Familiarity with regulatory permitting processes for USFWS, USACE, CDFW, FAA, Regional Water Quality Boards, and Air Quality Management Districts.
  • Familiarity with other states environmental processes.
