About the role

The Senior Construction Materials Testing Technician position is available at Intertek-PSI in Plymouth, MI. Intertek-PSI is a leading provider of construction assurance, testing, and inspection services. This role supports the Building and Construction business, performing construction materials testing services and supporting project engineers or managers.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of testing and project-specific observations under direct supervision or from detailed controlled procedures.
  • Performs observations and testing of construction materials such as soils, concrete, masonry, reinforcing steel placement, fireproofing, and asphalt.
  • Attends project meetings alone without supervision.
  • Trains other technicians.
  • Operates testing equipment and conducts testing (example: soil, concrete or other), and provides assessment of data through reporting.
  • Performs field and laboratory testing of soil samples and concrete specimens.
  • Documents daily activities and testing results and prepares field reports.
  • Works utilizing drawings, specifications, and diagrams.
  • Makes detailed observations and gives limited interpretation of results.
  • Maintains detailed documentation and data from test results.
  • Operates a calculator to calculate mathematical test results.
  • Maintains safety practices and policies to ensure personal and others' safety.
  • Interfaces with contractors and clients.

Requirements

  • H.S. Education or Equivalent
  • 2 or more years of relevant experience
  • Ability to lift, move, push and pull 30 to 50 pounds frequently
  • Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)
  • Ability to climb occasionally
  • Basic Math, Calculator, and Computer Skills
  • Communicate and interact effectively in verbal & written communication
  • Read and understand work plans
  • Work off shifts and overtime
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable driving record

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor's Science Degree from accredited engineering / ABET school
  • ACI/ICC/WisDOT certifications are preferred
