About the role
Under close supervision, performs a variety of engineering and technical support duties such as drafting and computer aided design drawings and updates, surveying, project record keeping, and assembling and filing reports in support of the engineering projects.
Essential functions
- Draws, edits, and updates design drawings, specifications, and project documents
- Conducts field surveys and traffic studies
- Completes various technical calculations relating to County design and construction projects
- Provides technical support and assistance to engineers and designers
- Provides oversight and guidance to engineering technicians in surveying and design work
- May provide support for computer systems and equipment
- Maintains engineering supplies
- Maintains files; copies, binds and unbinds engineering drawings
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Knowledge of:
- The maps, deeds, plats, and historical documents relating to surveys
- Computer equipment, design and office software manuals and surveying manuals
- Technical design standards, symbols, surveying equipment, large copiers and blueprint machines
Skill in:
- Reading and understanding Hamilton County Regulations, Policies and Procedures
- Reading, interpreting, and understanding maps, engineering drawings, surveys and plats
- Communicating effectively orally and establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with the public, department staff, other County departments and contractors
- Effectively communicating in both oral and written form
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Surveying, CAD, GIS or directly related discipline field from an accredited institution and three (3) years of direct work experience in construction, engineering, CAD, GIS and/or surveying field; OR
- Associate's Degree in Engineering, Surveying, CAD, GIS or directly related discipline field from an accredited institution and five (5) years of direct work experience in construction, engineering, CAD, GIS and/or surveying field; OR
- The equivalent of a high school diploma and seven (7) years of direct work experience in construction, engineering, CAD, GIS and/or surveying field
- A valid driver's license is required
Additional requirements
- Prior to operating a County-owned vehicle, all employees are required to complete the HC Defensive Driving course and/or an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) provided at the department level
Physical requirements
- Work requires moderate physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, walking and driving with occasional lifting of up to twenty-five (25) pounds
- Regular visits to project work sites are required
