Duties/Responsibilities
- Performs inspections and infrastructure walk-throughs of driveways, sidewalks, crosswalks, curbs, water, sewer, and storm drainage installations and other construction facilities, as assigned to ensure compliance with ordinances, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborates with a variety of stakeholders; attends meetings; reviews work, ensuring compliance with project plans, contracts, specifications, requirements, and related documentation; responds to concerns and questions; and troubleshoots construction issues.
- Inspects and tests construction material quality, applications and construction processes; performs pressure and quality tests; monitors ongoing construction operations, identifying and making recommendations for correcting non-conforming issues; and issues stop-work orders, certificates of occupancy, and other documentation.
- Prepares reports, and maintains project and department documentation, including financial records, plans, contracts, punch lists, and drawings; and takes photographs to document ongoing inspection, construction, contractor work.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- A High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC).
- Four years of related experience sufficient to understand the operational, technical, or office processes involved in the assignment.
- A valid North Carolina Class “C” Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record obtained within a timeframe established by the City.
Additional Preferred Skills
- Customer service experience related to resolving problems that involve explaining complicated engineering concepts to various customer groups.
- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
- Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
