About the Role
Qualus is seeking a seasoned Senior Protection & Control Engineer to join our growing Substation Protection and Control department in Chattanooga. This role is ideal for professionals with 7+ years of experience in major utility substations.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate with Substation Physical Engineering, Relay Settings, and other groups to ensure design concurrence.
- Develop complete engineering design packages for protective relaying and communications systems, including:
- One-line diagrams
- Three-line diagrams
- AC schematics
- DC schematics
- Logic and functional diagrams
- Panel layouts
- Control house layouts
- Wiring/connection diagrams
- Interconnection diagrams
- Relaying equipment specifications
- Bill of materials
- Develop SCADA packages, including input/output lists (Point Data Sheets).
- Provide technical direction and on-the-job training to drafters, engineering technicians, and less experienced engineers.
- Develop, nurture, and maintain trusted relationships with senior-level engineers, managers, and executives with current or prospective clients.
- Confidently present technical solutions to key customers, addressing technical concerns and answering questions in a knowledgeable and articulate manner.
- Direct and/or participate in client meetings and job site visits to collect or deliver design and engineering data.
- Perform and ensure the company’s Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) processes are followed on all design packages.
- Delegate, plan, prioritize, and review the work of other engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with a power systems focus. An MS Degree in engineering or an international engineering degree will be considered in lieu of the BS Engineering degree.
- Seven or more years of electrical engineering experience, with specific experience in protection and control engineering required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration or plan to become registered is required. Professional Engineering registration in the working state is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Strong analytical and computer skills.
