Senior Engineer - Production Cloud and Container Services

Senior Engineer - Production Cloud and Container Services: Join the Cloud and Container Services team to scale and manage Fastly’s Kubernetes‑based platform for control plane services, which runs on multiple public clouds and includes many Kubernetes ecosystem components. You will expand the platform feature set, support existing users, onboard new services, drive efficiency, and maintain a secure platform.

Work location: preferred locations are San Francisco, CA; Denver, CO; New York, NY. Hybrid model is standard; remote candidates within the US, UK, or Canada may be considered. Travel may be required as needed.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate infrastructure (cloud, Fastly datacenter) to enable reliable and rapid deployment, including effective monitoring and resilient operations in large‑scale multi‑cloud and hybrid cloud/on‑premise environments.
• Diagnose and resolve performance and reliability issues across the stack: application, OS, network, third‑party services and APIs, including cross‑application dependencies.
• Deploy and support complex third‑party and internally developed applications.
• Write tools to automate maintenance and deployment of servers, services, and applications.
• Collaborate with internal users and continually evolve the platform and its operations using solid engineering practices.
• Drive projects independently or collaboratively across time zones.
• Configure access and manage operations within a multi‑cloud environment.

Requirements

• Experience running high‑availability systems and supporting distributed infrastructure; most senior engineers have >5 years of related experience.
• Designed services with fault tolerance across geographies; deployed and managed multi‑tiered services.
• Understanding of Linux systems (high and low level); experience with tcpdump and tracing tools.
• Experience building and operating production‑grade Kubernetes clusters in multiple regions, clouds, or data centers; familiarity with CNCF tooling such as Prometheus, Flux, Helm, etc.
• Experience with programming languages such as Go and Python; ability to read, reason about, and write code in large code bases; ability to create medium‑sized programs from scratch (e.g., custom Kubernetes controllers, Prometheus exporters, infrastructure tooling).
• Experience with infrastructure and configuration management tooling (Terraform); provisioning and managing users and resources with cloud providers (AWS, GCP) via GUI and IaC.
• Experience with CI/CD and GitOps tooling; iterating infrastructure via pipelines through code changes; using GitHub (creating/reviewing pull requests).
