Senior Engineer, Commissioning (Hybrid Schedule)

Hybrid schedules may be available, requiring at least three days in-office (including Tuesdays and Wednesdays), with flexibility for the third day based on department needs. Employees must be available to work up to five days in-office for emergencies, training, or policy changes.

About the role

This position is responsible for the development and implementation of plans and procedures for testing and commissioning highly complex transmission and distribution substation projects. The role involves close collaboration with System Test and Protection & Controls Engineering to ensure safety and eliminate issues during the commissioning process. Responsibilities include commissioning substation equipment (e.g., breakers, transformers) and overall project systems (controls, relays, metering). The position also coordinates system failure evaluations and resolutions to support unplanned maintenance operations. Supervisory duties include assigning, prioritizing, and directing the work of other engineers, as well as on-call responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Ensure complex substation projects are tested and commissioned in accordance with industry and Eversource standards, prioritizing safety and system reliability.
• Assist in developing standards and procedures for test and commissioning of substation projects.
• Collaborate with engineers to ensure consistency and teamwork in project execution.
• Perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions for project commissioning issues.
• Manage, coach, develop, and review the performance of engineers and other staff.
• Supervise engineers and direct reports, both administratively and functionally.
• Develop and manage a preventive maintenance optimization program.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in utility distribution/transmission engineering, with preference for substation engineering, power systems, or related electric utility experience.
• Experience with substation equipment testing and/or commissioning is highly preferred.
• Valid driver’s license in CT, MA, or NH.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in both office and utility substation environments, requiring sitting, standing, walking, and climbing stairs.
• Travel to operating districts and companies within and outside the state is required.
• Availability for emergency storm assignments and travel between MA, CT, and NH as necessary.

Pay

Annual salary range: $129,450.00–$143,830.00. This position is eligible for a potential incentive.
