Senior Engineer - Civil Structural

About the role
Design and detail mat and pier type foundations for substation structures. Design substation structures ranging from simple equipment supports to overhead line towers, with emphasis on quality and project costs following client requirements and internal quality control and quality assurance practices. Complete substation designs as necessary, applying applicable codes and client standards to produce general arrangements, equipment and electrical layouts, elevation views, grading and fence plans, foundation plans and details, substation rigid bus arrangements, structure details, and bills of material.
Responsibilities
- Develop overall conceptual design plans in the initial development phase of new projects.
- Work with renewable energy developers and other clients to support schedules and cost estimates.
- Design foundations using commercially available software such as LPILE.
- Develop steel structure models for rigid bus and equipment supports.
- Perform company’s Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) processes.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with external business partners.
- Present information and respond to questions from individual or groups of clients.
- Direct and/or participate in client meetings and job site visits to collect or deliver design and engineering data.
- Mentor less experienced staff on a wide range of technical and project management skills.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
- 7+ years of experience performing civil structural engineering calculations.
- Strong analytical and computer skills.
- Ability to identify necessary software to complete needed design work.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Qualifications
- Proficiency with drafting programs such as AutoCAD and MicroStation is a plus.
- Experience in transmission, distribution, and generating stations is a plus.
