About the role
As a Senior Engineer – Backend (SAP CC), you will design and implement secure, scalable, and high-performing backend systems that power our platforms. You’ll work on cloud-native architectures, microservices, and integration strategies while ensuring disaster recovery, monitoring, and performance optimization. This role focuses on driving best-in-class backend practices, collaborating across teams, and delivering solutions that keep our systems reliable, efficient, and ready for growth.
Responsibilities
- Help with and implement backend architectural artifacts, including platform-level systems (PIM, ERP, Commerce, CMS, Marketing) and their relationships.
- Design secure, cloud-native, scalable, and performant backend services (monoliths, microservices, modularization).
- Contribute to and maintain org-wide Architecture Decision Records.
- Support the delivery and maintenance of Backend Engineering Policies, Procedures, and Standards, including CI/CD practices, environment configuration, feedback loops, and backend tooling.
- Provide technology stack/services consultancy and selection based on scalability, performance, security, and compliance requirements.
- Drive platform and backend operational practices, including disaster resiliency, recovery, and availability planning.
- Develop logging strategies for efficient root cause analysis and low MTTR, as well as monitoring, alerting, and on-call policies.
- Implement unit, integration, and acceptance-level API contract testing strategies.
- Create ongoing metrics and dashboarding for backend performance (SLAs, SLOs, SLIs, Golden Signals).
- Support ecommerce and company-wide projects.
- Work across disciplines and with other Principal Engineers to advocate for backend needs.
- Facilitate knowledge transfer, training, and mentoring of backend practices across engineering teams.
Requirements
- 5+ years of relevant industry experience and a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
- Extensive ecommerce experience with major platforms (SAP Commerce Cloud, Magento, Mirakl, Punchouts, etc.).
- Expertise in backend technologies such as SAP Commerce Cloud, SAP S/4, ElasticSearch/Solr, Redis, MSSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL.
- Advocacy for strong quality controls (unit, integration, acceptance testing) using tools like Junit, SonarCloud, Jmeter, Webdriver.io.
- Proficiency in major cloud platforms (Azure preferred, Google Cloud, AWS) and deep understanding of cloud-native methodologies.
- Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, Artifactory, GCR, ACR, ECR).
- Hands-on experience with vertical and horizontal scaling of systems, including microservice, monolithic, and distributed architectures.
- Fluency in REST, GraphQL, and event-driven architecture (Pub/Sub, Kafka).
- Experience with APM, distributed tracing, monitoring, and logging tools (AWS CloudWatch, ELK Stack, OpenTelemetry, Dynatrace, Datadog, New Relic).
- Strong understanding of oAuth2, SPIFFE, and other authentication/authorization best practices.
- Coding proficiency in languages/frameworks such as Java, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, SpringBoot, ReactJS, NextJS, TailwindCSS.
- Knowledge of diagramming tools (Miro, Diagrams.net, Figjam, Mermaid.JS).
- Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal).

Pay
The salary range for this role is $111,382.34–$150,314.59, based on qualifications, experience, and geographical location. Parts Town is a pay-for-performance company, and this role may include profit-sharing and an annual bonus.
